Proposed Analysis: | The research proposed will explore the relationship between iron accumulation in the brain and Alzheimer’s disease. This will be done by conducting a structured large scale computational image analysis of Magnetic Resonance (MR) images available through the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI). Until recently the relationship between iron and Alzheimer’s was assessed using small study groups. The ADNI project is now a worldwide collaboration of academic and industry groups where clinical data on Alzheimer’s disease is shared. As well as evaluating biomarker potential, the research will contribute to tackling a long standing challenge; to better understand the role of iron in Alzheimer’s disease. |
