Proposed Analysis: | My overall aim is to discover the neurobiological mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease by mapping structural (DTI) and functional (fMRI) brain networks and investigate the dynamic interactions between structural and functional network measures and protein biomarkers (measured by amyloid and tau PET scans), as well as cognitive measurements (CDR and MMSE scores). I hypothesize that (1) patients with Alzheimer’s disease will show abnormal network centrality in specific brain regions (e.g. hippocampus), disturbed modular and motif structure, compared with healthy controls; (2) amyloid beta and tau proteins may longitudinally deposit and spread through certain structural and functional pathways, which ultimately leads to cognitive dysfunction in patients with Alzheimer’s disease. |
