Proposed Analysis: | Declining Dementia Trends and Cognitive Aging Recent research suggests that the incidence of dementia has been decreasing since 1990. While this pattern is a positive development, the reasons for this decrease are unclear. Crucially, older adults lived through circumstances of relative change in social conditions that may have resulted in either consistent or temporary improvements in lifetime cognition/resilience. We posit that cohort and period effects may help to explain differences between older and younger people commonly attributed to aging. We will utilize the biomarker, neuropathology and cognitive data of the ADNI across birth cohorts, periods. Analysis will involve individual-level predictors to examine contextual factors associated with cognitive function, decline, and impairment. Results will be likely be combined using random-effects meta-regression. |
